Dual Clutch Transmissions have blended the ease of shifting found in traditional automatic transmissions with the efficiency and performance that are a hallmark of standard transmissions. This is accomplished by utilizing a system of odd and even gears and two clutches all confined within one gearbox.
A well-designed DCT, in which the timing of the gear engagement and disengagement is perfectly synchronized, demonstrates the avoidance of engine flare up and over-clutch engagement, ensuring the efficiency needed by Formula SAE racecars.
The goal of the project is to design and test an automated shift technique for existing SAE Formula car #79 as a step in developing a dual-clutch transmission design to be used in future ODU SAE Formula competitions.
Working in a group, the task is to design a DCT that will make the transmission effective and augment the overall driving experience to achieve the status of best Formula SAE car.
